Grace Under Fire
When the terrain gets rough
Gear down and Power up
Time to Show your stuff
When life's got you under the gun
Fire up your Faith
It's Time for A test run
When adversity blindsides your hood
Pray the pedal to the metal
Its about to get good
When King Jesus takes the driver's seat
Move right, sit tight
The devil just bit the dust under your feet
When you spy the Grace checkered flag
Lift up Holy hands
You're about to win this drag!
I remember years ago I took a freshman Sociology course. The Professor, Dr. Saroj Chawla, framed her course with the notion of Caring. I remember thinking that it was a rather simplistic pedagogy for a University course. But as the years have gone by I've returned many times to reflect on what was actually her inherently post modern way of thinking. The Professor had clued into something that we have somehow lost sight of. We have lost that loving feeling for the Other.
TD Jakes spoke about this in his recent sermon about letting go of self -ish motives and investing in the lives of others. Investing in something other than self. In essence seeing life with a wider more humanistic lens. We tend to have become very preoccupied with a myopic view of self. Let's stop for a minute and think of small ways of caring. There are myriad ways of showing care and spreading the joy of the Lord. We can volunteer at a homeless shelter, mentor young people, take our children to visit seniors at a nursing home, smile at a stranger, pray for people other than friends and family, witness to a neighbor on the subway train, donate our time or money without expecting a return. The possibilities are endless.....Let's look outside of our beautiful selves for a moment and invest in something bigger than you and I. Let's care for each other on a whole other level.
Love and Blessings
God is in Control.
